Interesting Odds and Ends

Researchers Find That Chocolate Compound Stops Cancer Cell Cycle in Lab Experiments

No doubt the work of Magrathea.

Seattle man catches fire during surgery

I guess the surgeons got a little cold.

This is CG.

Deeply impressive. Must have taken an incredible amount of time to render though. Of course, realtime photorealism on this scale is still a very long way of, unless we somehow find a way of simulating millions of photons flying around and bouncing of highly complex surfaces in realtime without actually modelling it.

It's the eyes. They can ne'er get the sodding eyes right. I mean 'tis impressive but even when they do those "photorealism" CG films, it's always the eyes that let them down.

Again with it being Talyn and again with me forgetting my login stuff.

I think in this case that the eyes are pretty good. I personally think it's the skin that lets him down. It's a bit too smooth, like he's wearing makeup or a bit plastic.

But your eyes are drawn to his eyes unnaturally. There's something not quite right with it. Also the hair doesn't look quite right but it is worryingly good.

Looks pretty, good, but it's still a little 'bright and not really 'sullen'.
The other secret to realism is irregularity. Getting there - it'll be cool when they can actually do sammat useful with them.
