The story I heard is that this was never broadcast, and was made up entirely for the amusement of the cast and crew.

Well, the story I heard was that the writers got a pay cut one year and this was their way of getting back at the producers.
Besides, yours doesn't go to explain why I have a distinct memory of an episode in which "twangers" features heavily.
